Brendan Rodgers insists that Celtic losing to Lincoln Red Imps was not an embarrassment, SkySports report, but that is not how everybody else sees it.

The Gibraltar based part timers beat the Scottish champions 1-0, in Rodgers' first competitive game in charge since being fired by Liverpool last year.

The Northern Irishman now faces a nervous few days until the second leg of the Champions League qualifier next week, a game in which failure to win could wreck their season.

Just two years ago Rodgers was basking in the near miss 'glory' of just missing out on the Premier League title with Liverpool, leading them to a surprise second placed finish.

Luis Suarez's sale in the summer of 2014 rocked the Reds, and Rodgers never recovered. His numerous signings failed to impress, and just 15 months later he was sacked.

His return to Celtic was supposed to be a new beginning, the chance to prove the way it ended at Liverpool was an anomaly, but last night's game had a very familiar feel to it, espeically for watching Liverpool supporters, who saw Rodgers' struggle in European competition with the club.
