Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka has told the club's official website how happy he is at the speed with which his side is taking shape this summer.

The Teesside club have already made four signings with Victor Valdes joining Marten de Roon, Viktor Fisher and Bernardo Espinosa at The Riverside and Karanka told mfc.co.uk of his delight at getting his transfer business done early.

“The important part of the team is here this year," he said. "We have more players in at this stage than we did last season, and we have a strong group of players I believe."

Karanka will be hoping that his side can continue the impressive style of football they showcased in the Championship last term and with the quality additions made over the summer, there is no reason why they cannot achieve even greater success.

The former Real Madrid assistant went on to highlight the extra quality the new signings have brought to his squad.

“They are bringing us more quality," he added. "I am more than pleased with what we have done and we have to keep going."

The challenge for Karanka and his Boro coaching staff will be to enhance the levels of the players already at the club, as well as integrating the new signings into what is a tightly knit group.

There is a real feel-good factor surrounding the Riverside due to the influence of Karanka's footballing philosophies bearing fruit on the pitch, and with the excellent signings already made there is no reason why that feeling will not translate to a successful first season back in the Premier League.
