There is a new sense of optimism surrounding the Everton camp at the moment and understandably so.
Following the difficulties of last season, the highly respected Ronald Koeman has been handed the reins at Goodison Park and billionaire owner Farhad Moshiri is said to be ready to financially back the Dutchman as he begins his revolution with the Toffees.
As a result, a number of high profile names such as Juan Mata (The Telegraph), Georginio Wijnaldum (The Daily Express), Axel Witsel (Liverpool Echo) and Kalidou Koulibaly (The Daily Mail) among others have all been linked with a move to Everton over the past few weeks and it will be interesting to see which of the aforementioned players the Toffees are eventually able to sign.
Recently another player, in the form of Arkadiusz Milik, has been mentioned as a target for Everton by the Liverpool Echo and the Polish international would be a very good signing for the Toffees.
Milik is a highly rated striker who starred for Ajax Amsterdam last season, scoring 24 goals in all competitions and he also played a crucial role in helping Poland qualify for the European Championships in impressive fashion.
Following such a fine season, there was understandably a lot of hype surrounding Milik ahead of Euro 2016, but unfortunately the striker was not quite able to show his true worth in France, putting in a number of wasteful performances in front of goal.
Nonetheless, Milik’s mediocre displays have allegedly not put off Everton and he could well turn out to be the ideal replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who has made it clear in no uncertain terms that he wants out of Goodison Park this summer (Sky Sports).
If one is to directly compare Milik to Lukaku, it is clear to see that the two players possess completely different physical build.
Lukaku is built like a tank while Milik is much slighter in frame. The Belgian’s sheer physical presence allows him to be very good at holding up the ball and it would be fair to state that playing with his back to goal is not Milik’s strong suite.
There are a lot of similarities between Milik and Lukaku though when it comes to putting the ball in the back of the net. The Ajax star is a player who has the natural instinct in front of goal and he is not at all afraid of taking on defenders or indeed trying speculative efforts from difficult positions, even leading many labeling him selfish.
However, selfishness is not exactly the worst quality in a striker and the 22-year-old can testify to this fact by directing the detractors at his wonderful goalscoring record. Much like Lukaku, Milik is a bit raw and can be frustrating at times but all is usually forgiven as he does tend to get crucial goals for his side every game.
Perhaps Lukaku is a bit better than Milik at the moment and the Everton star has already proven himself in the Premier League. Lukaku is no longer committed to Everton though and therefore, Milik would probably be a much better option during the upcoming campaign.
From a financial standpoint, Lukaku could potentially pocket Everton a cool £50 million (ESPN) and the Toffees will be able to invest the amount on purchasing Milik as well as save a large chunk for Koeman to invest on other areas of the squad.
Given the choice, Everton fans would probably prefer to keep hold of a quality player like Lukaku but Milik is not at all a bad alternative and he could well flourish under the tutelage of the brilliant man manager that is Koeman this season.
Would Milik be a good signing for Everton?
