Tommy Elphick has told the Birmingham Mail that there needs to be more changes at Aston Villa next season.

The defender was the first new face to arrive at the club this summer following Roberto di Matteo’s appointment.

Like the Italian, he arrives at the club looking to ensure they bounce back from the disappointment of being relegated from the Premier League last season.

There have been several changes since then, with a new manager and a new owner at the club next season and Elphick says that further changes are needed as the squad lacked guidance in the last campaign.

“Things need to change here because there was a lack of guidance last season,” he told the Birmingham Mail.

“Sometimes it’s hard to stop losing but with a new manager and new owner it’s exciting times. I know we’ll get this group together.”

Elphick will now be hoping to instigate his own changes by helping to improve the defence next season.

In a Villa team that performed badly last season, there was no denying that the defence was particularly poor.

Centre of defence was a problem are to say the least, with the likes of Joleon Lescott and Jores Okore failing to impress throughout, and Elphick will be keen to help them improve drastically in the Championship.
