Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in action for Bayern Munich
Southampton confirmed on their official website earlier today that midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has signed for the club from Bayern Munich.
The Saints have had a busy summer so far, as manager Ronald Koeman, midfielder Victor Wanyama and winger Sadio Mane have all left for Premier League rivals, joining Everton, Tottenham and Liverpool respectively.
Now though, replacements have been brought in, with Claude Puel taking over as manager, Nathan Redmond coming in for Mane out wide, and now Hojbjerg into midfield in place of Wanyama.
The Dane, 20, had been on the books with Copenhagen and Brondby before heading to Munich in 2012, initially playing for their B team before emerging into the first team, particularly under now-Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.
After loan spells with Bundesliga rivals Augsburg and Schalke, Hojbjerg has decided to seek first-team football elsewhere on a permanent basis, penning a five-year deal with Southampton.
Since Southampton confirmed their exciting new signing, fans have been taking to Twitter to give their views on the deal - and it's fair to say they're excited.
Saints fans believe Hojbjerg is a real coup for the club, and are encouraged by the little they have seen of him during his time in the Bundesliga.
Fans also wondered whether he's a direct replacement for the departed Wanyama, and others even compared him to former Southampton star Morgan Schneiderlin, who was sold to Manchester United last summer. If Hojbjerg is indeed the next Schneiderlin, then this is a great deal for the Saints.
Here are some of the reactions from Saints fans after Hojbjerg's move was confirmed earlier today...
#saintsfc still cant work out if Hojbjerg is a replacement for Wanyama— Matt (@MattElgar14) July 11, 2016
Hojbjerg, very much reminds me of a young Morgan. If he turns out to be half the player Morgan was for us, we're in for a treat. #saintsfc— Andrew (@andrew_saintsfc) July 11, 2016
Do you think Hojbjerg is a good signing for Southampton?
