Portugal's Adrien Silva in action with France's Moussa Sissoko
France were left heartbroken on Sunday evening as they lost the Euro 2016 final 1-0 to Portugal - and many were left dumbfounded by Moussa Sissoko's performance.
Les Blues went into the game as hot favourites having beaten Germany 2-0 in the semi-finals, and given that it was their home tournament, a final clash against a solid if unspectacular Portugal side in Paris.
Didier Deschamps' men pushed for a goal but the game ended 0-0 in 90 minutes, with some uninspiring attacking play and dogged defending on show, sending the game to extra time.
With France still being frustrated, a Cristiano Ronaldo-less Portugal struck to win the game as former Swansea striker Eder smashed the ball home from long range to hand Portugal the title.
Many France players will be disappointed with their performances in the game, but one player who did impress was Newcastle's Moussa Sissoko.
The powerful midfielder, 26, flattered to deceive last season as Newcastle were relegated to the Championship, with many fans left disappointed with Sissoko's invisible displays in the face of relegation.
Yet on the international stage, Sissoko has shown his direct running and incredible athleticism, and was a constant menace against Portugal, going close to scoring on a number of occasions.
During the game, former Newcastle midfielders Joey Barton and Jonas Gutierrez both took to Twitter to discuss Sissoko's performance, with Barton wondering whether he was even the same player that struggled for the Magpies last season.
Current team-mate Georginio Wijnaldum offered his support after Sissoko lost the final, whilst former Premier League players Clinton Morrison, Jan Aage Fjortoft, Stan Collymore, Michael Essien, Mario Melchiot, Djimi Traore, Danny Higginbotham, John Arne Riise and Michael Gray also posted their thoughts on Sissoko's performance, which clearly caused shock amongst former players...
