Portugal's Nani celebrates with teammates after scoring their second goal
Host nation France are just one win away from yet another triumph in their own back yard, but they have to beat a pretty stubborn Portugal side if they are to become European champions this evening.
However, some will feel their biggest hurdle has been cleared after they knocked out Germany in the semi-finals of the competition in Marseille on Thursday - courtesy of two Antoine Griezmann goals as they got the better of the world champions.
Portugal recorded their only victory in 90 minutes in the competition so far in their semi-final win over Wales in Lyon on Wednesday - thanks to goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani.
It should be an interesting battle. Earlier on in the competition, France appeared to struggle against sides that were prepared to put men behind the ball and remain solid but have found their scoring touch in recent weeks - while Portugal have seemingly become experts at just doing enough.
It should be a fascinating contest, and here are three players who could have a big say in the final:
France's Antoine Griezmann celebrates at the end of the match
The tournament's top scorer with six goals has played a massive role in the home nation getting this far. His braces against the Republic of Ireland and Germany have proved crucial on this run. It would not be surprising to see him come up with that big goal again.
Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo
One five minute spell just showed how important he is to this Portugal team when they took on Wales. His header to open the scoring, and the role he played in Nani's strike effectively killed the game as a contest. This is a huge opportunity for him to add an international honour to his glittering trophy haul at a club and individual level.
France's Hugo Lloris makes a save
He has been something of an unsung hero throughout this tournament but he has come up with some pivotal saves. In the opening game against Romania, the following group match against Albania and in the semi-final against Germany he made top class saves at 0-0. Where it not for him, the outcome of those games, and indeed the tournament as a whole could have gone a different way. If it's a tight game, don't be surprised to see the Tottenham goalkeeper come up with one huge save for his country.
