According to Tutto Mercato Web, Sunderland have contacted the agent of Fiorentina striker Khouma Babacar to sound out a possible deal.

The Black Cats may have seen Jermain Defoe score 15 goals in the Premier League last season, but it's clear that Sunderland still need to bring in more attacking firepower to help him.

Sky Sports recently reported that manager Sam Allardyce had made a bid of £11m for West Ham striker Diafra Sakho, in a bid to reunite with the man he managed at Upton Park during the 2014/15 season.

Now, Tutto Mercato Web suggest that Sunderland are keen on another Senegalese striker, with Fiorentina's Khouma Babacar the target this time - and the Black Cats have spoken to his agent about a possible move to Wearside this summer.

Babacar, 23, has been on the books at Fiorentina since signing from Pescara in 2008, and hit seven goals for the Florence-based side in all competitions last season.

A powerful, pacy striker, Babacar fits the bill for Allardyce, and having spent most of last season as a backup to Croatian hitman Nikola Kalinic at Fiorentina, he may now be keen on a move away this summer in order to play first-team football.

However, Sunderland are far from the only team interested in Babacar. It's claimed that, whilst agent Patrick Bastianelli did speak to Sunderland, he also held talks with Crystal Palace and Middlesbrough, whilst West Ham are also lurking in the race for his signature.

It's added that Fiorentina want €10m (£8.5m) for Babacar, putting him within Allardyce's budget this summer - but whether he can fend off other Premier League clubs is another matter.
