Sunderland and West Ham United are both said to be interested in Ogenyi Onazi.
According to a report in the Chronicle, Sunderland are interested in signing Lazio midfielder Ogenyi Onazi.
Sunderland are yet to make an addition in the summer transfer window, but Sam Allardyce does have money to spend.
Allardyce wants to bring a new midfielder to the Stadium of Light, and Onazi is said to be on his wishlist.
Sunderland are determined not to pay over the odds for their transfer targets this season, and they feel Onazi could be available in a bargain deal.
The 23-year-old was not a permanent starter for Lazio last season, and he made 22 appearances in total.
Sunderland are unlikely to find it easy to land Onazi, however, as West Ham United are also interested.
West Ham have been linked with a host of players this summer, with Slaven Bilic keen to add to his squad.
Lazio are said to value Onazi at £7 million, and it remains to be seen whether Sunderland or West Ham will submit a bid which matches that asking price.
