Tottenham Hotspur are confident of signing Georginio Wijnaldum from Newcastle United in the summer transfer window, according to The Mirror.
It has been reported that Tottenham are interested in securing the services of the Netherlands international midfielder this summer.
“Spurs made enquiries this week and are confident they hold the whip hand as they can offer a number of players in exchange,” states the report in The Mirror.
Wijnaldum did not have a great 2015-16 campaign for Newcastle, but there were moments when he looked superb.
The 25-year-old midfielder scored 11 goals and created 48 chances in 38 Premier League appearances for the Magpies last season.
The former PSV star had a pass accuracy of 85% and a shot accuracy of 71%, and won 25 headers, 50 dribbles and 31 tackles.
Wijnaldum is too good for the Championship, the division where Newcastle will play in next season after getting relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.
Tottenham, who will feature in the Champions League next season, will be aiming to win the Premier League title during the 2016-17 campaign.
