Blackburn Rovers Grant Hanley
The Magpies have added new faces to their squad already this summer, with goalkeeper Matz Sels, right back Jesus Gamez, winger Matt Ritchie and striker Dwight Gayle.
With Rafael Benitez still looking for new signings as the club look to mount an immediate push for promotion from the Championship, it now appears a new centre back is next on Benitez's wish list.
Steven Taylor was released earlier this summer, whilst Fabricio Coloccini has moved back to Argentina with San Lorenzo, meaning that Benitez only has Chancel Mbemba and Jamaal Lascelles in his ranks at centre back.
Now, the Daily Mail report that Newcastle have failed with two bids for Blackburn Rovers centre back Grant Hanley, and are now making a new £4m bid for the Scot.
Hanley, 24, joined Blackburn from Rangers back in 2008, and has now racked up 200 appearances for the Ewood Park club, becoming one of the Championship's top defenders.
A giant centre back at 6ft 3in tall, Hanley has earned 23 caps for Scotland, and looks destined for a big move elsewhere, with Newcastle seemingly desperate to land his signature this summer.
Yet, with two years left on his contract, Blackburn are under no pressure to sell their star defender, hence their decision to reject two bids for the player - but with £4m now set to be on the table, Newcastle are hoping to finally land their man.
