Mario Gotze visited Liverpool’s training ground and spoke with Jurgen Klopp before Euro 2016 but turned down a move, according to Sport Bild.

The German international looks set to leave Bayern Munich this summer and recent reports – by the likes of the Mirror – have suggested that Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham are now the front runners for his signature.

Klopp’s presence at Anfield is seemingly not enough to convince Gotze to swap Munich for Merseyside, with Sports Bild’s report suggesting their lack of Champions League participation could be a key factor.

Spurs, on the other hand, can offer him Europe’s premier competition, but it remains to be seen whether that will be enough to convince him to make the switch.

Gotze was loved at Dortmund and with the sales of Ilkay Gundogan, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and possibily Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer – the German giants will not be short on cash.

A return to his former club could be an attractive proposition but if the 24-year old is keen to take on a new challenge then Mauricio Pochettino’s project at Spurs could be just the ticket.

Gotze struggled at Euro 2016 and has seen his career somewhat stagnate since his move to Bayern but there remains no doubt over his quality and he would be an excellent addition to the Premier League.
