Croatia's Ante Coric during training
According to Croatian outlet Sata24, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp intends to send Ante Coric on loan to Mainz if the player doesn't sign by July 21st.
The Reds kicked off their pre-season schedule with a 1-0 win over nearby Tranmere Rovers on Friday evening, as manager Klopp handed debuts to new signings Loris Karius, Joel Matip and Sadio Mane.
Now though, Klopp is looking to bring in more new signings - and a deal for Croatian wonderkid Ante Coric appears to be on the cards after Croatian outlet Tportal reported earlier this week that the Reds have offered £12.75m for Dinamo Zagreb's 19-year-old star.
It was stated in that report that Klopp wants Coric signed by the time Liverpool fly out to the United States for a pre-season tour on July 21st, as he would want the player to be integrated with his new team-mates ahead of the new Premier League season.
With just shy of two weeks to get a deal done before then, Liverpool still have hope of a swift deal - but Klopp appears to have a backup plan in mind anyway.
Croatian outlet Sata24 report that, if Coric does sign for Liverpool but not by July 21st, then manager Klopp will strike a deal with former club Mainz to send the playmaker out on loan to the Bundesliga side.
Klopp made more than 300 appearances for Mainz as a player and then managed the club for over seven years before heading to Borussia Dortmund in 2008, and is now keen to help out his former club by potentially sending Coric out to the Coface Arena.
Clearly, Klopp wants Coric playing with his new team-mates in plenty of time, and if that isn't possible, it's better to get him out on loan and playing for another club - and the next fortnight could dictate who Coric is playing for next season.
