Rangers star Harry Forrester has explained to The Scottish Sun what he realised about Old Firm games against Celtic.

Attacker Forrester missed Rangers’ clash against Old Firm rivals Celtic in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup final last season

The 25-year-old was injured for the tie, and he also missed the final against Hibernian at Hampden Park in Glasgow in May for the same reason.

Forrester has now fully recovered from the hairline fracture of his leg and is training with the Rangers’ first team ahead of the 2016-17 campaign.

The former Aston Villa prospect has admitted that he was disappointed to miss the games against Celtic and Hibernian.

However, the former Brentford and Doncaster Rovers attacker has stated that missing the matches made his realise that he has four Old Firm matches to play in this season.

“I was devastated to miss the Scottish Cup semi-final and final,” Forrester told The Scottish Sun. “It’s no secret the Old Firm games, then the Cup Final, were matches I wanted to be involved in.

“But it gave me an opportunity to go away and get stronger and come back better. To miss the Old Firm game was hard, but it made me realise there are four more this year and it’s not about one game.”

Rangers won the Scottish Championship title with ease last season and got automatic promotion to the Scottish Premiership for the 2016-17 campaign.

The Gers will be aiming to compete with Celtic for the league title next season. Rangers have been quite busy in the summer transfer window so far, signing Joey Barton and Clint Hill among others.
