Liverpool striker Danny Ings has shared his delight to the club’s official website after scoring in the win over Tranmere Rovers.

The striker bagged the only goal of the game on Friday evening, helping his side to a 1-0 win in their first preseason game of the summer.

His goal was the latest big step on the road to recovery for Ings, after he missed the majority of last season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury picked up back in October.

He has worked tirelessly across the summer in preparation for next season and was naturally delighted to get his name on the score sheet in his first proper appearance since the injury.

“It was good, a relief,” Ings told Liverpoolfc.com.

“It’s been a tough six or seven months for me and Joe [Gomez] but it was a relief when I saw the ball hit the back of the net and then the reaction of the crowd. I’ve not had that feeling for a long time and every striker loves that, he thrives off it.”

It now remains to be seen what role that Ings has to play for Liverpool next season should he be fully fit.

There is fierce competition for the strikers role, with Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi both impressing under Jurgen Klopp last season.

All indications have been that the German is a big fan of Ings though and a strong pre-season could see him playing a key role in the side.
