West Ham United striker Toni Martinez has shown his appreciation for new teammate Andy Carroll by naming him an idol of his in a tweet posted on Friday afternoon.

Martinez joined the Hammers in April after starring for the youth sides of La Liga club Valencia, for whom he scored over 100 goals in just four years.

The 18-year-old signed a three-year deal with the Olympic Stadium club, and though he is not expected to necessarily be part of the senior set-up immediately he will be hoping to earn some opportunities this season.

It appears as though Martinez has already found a senior star to look up to in London, judging by a tweet he posted on Friday afternoon.

Martinez shared a photo of himself alongside Hammers striker Andy Carroll and attached the caption "Idolo/Idol!!".

27-year-old Carroll has nearly 250 senior competitive appearances to his name in English football for Newcastle United, Liverpool, and West Ham.

Highly-rated striker Martinez will be hoping to learn from the striker, who has racked up 68 club career goals despite recurring injury problems, as he looks to make his name at the Hammers this season.
