According to Sky Sports (live transfer centre, July 8th at 15:10), Sunderland are to hold talks with defender Davide Santon after agreeing a fee with Italian club Inter Milan.
The report claims that the Italy international has travelled to the North East to discuss personal terms, and a medical is set to follow assuming he agrees on a switch to the Stadium of Light.
Sam Allardyce has identified the fullback positions as an area to improve, what with DeAndre Yedlin returning to parent club Tottenham Hotspur following his successful loan last term.
Santon, a former Newcastle United player, was a first-team regular during his last stint in the Premier League but he opted to return to his native Italy after Inter Milan came in for his services.
The 25-year-old is capable of playing on either side and can be considered defensively sound, comfortable in possession and capable of pushing up and joining in with attacks.
But as per the report by Sky Sports, it appears the Wearside club are leading the race for his signature and should all go to plan they could wrap up a deal within the next few days.
