People News: Deutsche Bank, Barclays, JP Morgan

Tony Whittemore, a former senior banker at Deutsche Bank, is joining Barclays as executive chairman of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) in New York starting on Thursday, the bank said in an internal memo.

Reuters reports that Whittemore was most recently co-head of Americas M&A at Deutsche Bank. Reuters first reported that he had resigned from the bank in April after about eight years. Whittemore joined Deutsche Bank from Citigroup, where he advised telecommunications companies.

In the meantime, Reuters also reports that J.P. Morgan Private Bank, a part of JPMorgan Chase & Co, appointed Tara Smyth the head of its Middle East market business.

Smyth, who succeeds Jonathan Conner, was previously the head of the company's Middle East investment team.
