France saw off Germany to claim a place in the Euro 2016 final, where they will host Portugal this Sunday.

Among the starters for France alongside the irrepressible Paul Pogba, was Blaise Matuidi in the heart of midfield.

The 29-year-old was the subject of speculation linking him to Manchester United earlier this week, with the Manchester Evening News reporting they are to hold talks with his agent over a switch from Paris Saint-Germian.

Matuidi is represented by Mino Raiola, who has helped bring Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Old Trafford, and it appears likely that either he or Pogba could be a United player by time the season starts.

Matuidi would be an older but far cheaper option, and certainly not a bad fall back.

Last night Matuidi was excellent, calmly protecting the back four, along with Newcastle's Moussa Sissoko.

If Jose Mourinho was watching, and it's likely he was, then Matuidi did his chances of a move to United no harm at all, and can add to his reputation in the upcoming final.

Here is a look at how watching United fans reacted on Twitter to Matuidi's performance, and they were split over his display...
