Crystal Palace's Dwight Gayle is dejected after losing the final
Gayle became Newcastle’s second signing of the summer last week when he completed a move from Crystal Palace.
Townsend meanwhile, moved the other way as he elected to return to the Premier League with the Eagles after a short stay at St James’ Park.

Gayle has already admitted that a big draw for him was the lure of playing under Rafa Benitez for the Magpies and he says that Townsend gave the former Real Madrid manager a glowing assessment.
“It’s a massive thing for me to be playing for a manager like this,” he told the Chronicle.
“For him to ask me to come to the club was a dream come true. Andros Townsend said that he was a great guy to play under and I can’t wait to get started.”

Indeed, it appears that the lure of playing for Rafa Benitez is one that Newcastle are using to their advantage this summer.
Gayle clearly made the move because of the Spaniard, while fellow signing Matt Ritchie has also spoke in glowing terms about the chance to work under him.
They will be hoping potential new recruits have a similar feeling and at present it seems Benitez could well be the best signing they will make all summer.
