Southampton have expressed an interest in signing Romanian international Nicolae Stanciu, according to reports from Digisport.
It has become somewhat of a norm in recent times for Southampton to lose their best players every summer and the Saints have already seen key men Victor Wanyama and Sadio Mane as well as manager Ronald Koeman leave the club so far.
Admittedly, Southampton have proven over the years that they are masters at rebuilding their squad but that being said, new Saints boss Claude Puel will surely have a tough job on his hands to turn his side into European contenders during the upcoming season.
Puel does have an extensive knowledge of European football and in his attempt to reinforce his squad, it has been claimed by Digisport that the Frenchman is currently eyeing up a swoop for Romanian international Nicolae Stanciu.
The 23-year-old is currently plying his trade for Steaua București and he was arguably one of the best midfielders in the Romanian Liga 1 last season, scoring 14 goals as well as providing 11 assists in 38 appearances.
Such exploits have seen Stanciu attract the interest from a host of clubs across Europe and according to reports from Digisport, Southampton are currently the team very keen on signing the attacking midfielder.
Steaua owner Gigi Becali confirmed that there was interest in Stanciu from England and revealed that he has set an asking price of around £5 million for the Romanian star. Becali told Digi Sport Special, "I gave yesterday a paper for £5 million (nr 6 million) in England.”
Will Southampton finish in the top four next season?
