Juventus are hoping to sign Nemanja Matic from Chelsea according to a report in the Mirror, in a deal worth £17 million.

Matic is the most recognised defensive midfielder at Stamford Bridge but the Mirror's report suggests that Chelsea are in line to sign N'golo Kante from Leicester City.

If that is the case, then the possibility of Matic leaving the club increases slightly as incoming manager Antonio Conte shapes his side ahead of the new season at Chelsea.

Kante would certainly be a different type of holding player to Matic as he covers more ground, which would indicate that Conte wants to change the dynamic of the Chelsea midfield somewhat.

Since Matic returned to the club in January 2014, he has been a crucial part of the midfield. In the following 18 months he proved to be a valuable part of the side that would culminate in the side lifting the Premier League title and League Cup in 2015.

His form, like the rest of the side's, took something of a nosedive the following season as Chelsea struggled at the start of the season - culminating in the sacking of Jose Mourinho in September as they finished in 10th place in the league table.

It will be interesting to see if Matic does have a role in the side under Conte ahead of next season, but if not then a move to the Italian champions could prove tempting.
