Premier League newcomers Burnley are planning a £6 million move for Aston Villa midfielder Ashley Westwood, according to the Birmingham Mail.

However, not all of that fee would be bound for the Villa Park coffers, the Crewe Chronicle reports.

Is is claimed that when Villa acquired the 26-year-old in 2012, they agreed to pay selling club Crewe Alexandra 20 per cent of any profit made on his reported £1 million transfer.

And if Westwood were to depart for £6 million, the League Two side would be due one sixth of that - taking the total cost of the original transfer to around the £2 million mark.

The player's move is far from guaranteed, though, with the Chronicle reporting that Burnley will struggle to match his £40,000-a-week wages.

The Clarets are yet to add to their squad since being promoted as Championship winners, and are weakened by the departure of Joey Barton to Glasgow Rangers.
