Rafael Benitez has told the Shields Gazette that Newcastle United have some deals ‘there and ready’, as they look to further strengthen their squad.

The Magpies have wasted no time in bringing players to St. James’ Park this summer, with Matz Sels, Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle all signing up.

Newcastle are also closing in on a deal for Jesus Gamez, and it seems that more players could arrive in the coming days.

"We were working to get some players ready, and then we did three in a row," the Spanish boss said.

“We are still working. We have some players there (and) ready.”

Newcastle have recently terminated the contract of Fabricio Coloccini, and sold Andros Townsend to Crystal Palace.

The Tynesiders are under no pressure to sell players, but more exits are expected to follow.

The likes of Daryl Janmaat, Moussa Sissoko and Georginio Wijnaldum have all been tipped to leave Newcastle this summer.

Newcastle are currently the favourites to win the Championship, with bookies quoting odds as short as 2/1 for them to finish on top.

Newcastle’s Championship season gets underway with a match against Fulham at Craven Cottage next month.
