Aleksandar Mitrovic, Ayoze Perez and Papiss Cisse only managed 18 goals between them in a campaign that eventually saw the Magpies relegated from the Premier League.

It would certainly be surprising to find Gayle playing as a winger for Newcastle United next season.
It has widely been accepted he has been brought in as a striker, with the explicit hope he can get the goals they need to get out of the Championship next season.
His comments suggest Benitez has other plans though and it will be interesting to see how the Magpies opt to line up.
