According to The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur are looking to lure Georginio Wijnaldum to White Hart Lane after Newcastle's relegation to the Championship.

Spurs have already made one summer signing having snapped up midfielder Victor Wanyama from Southampton, but manager Mauricio Pochettino is still keen to add to his squad ahead of the club's Champions League campaign.

Another striker and another centre back should be on Pochettino's radar, but he also appears to want another attacking midfielder as cover for star youngster Dele Alli - and a swoop on Newcastle for playmaker Georginio Wijnaldum could be in the pipeline.

The Telegraph report that Dutch international Wijnaldum is wanted by Spurs after suffering relegation to the Championship with Newcastle, coming off a season where he hit 11 goals and five assists for the Magpies.

Wijnaldum came in for strong criticism last season, as he often went missing when Newcastle need him most, and turned in some invisible displays as the Magpies battled against the drop - yet now, he could end up in the Champions League next season.

Since the report broke on Tuesday, Tottenham fans have been taking to Twitter to give their views on a possible deal, and it's fair to say that the rumours have split Spurs supporters.

Some believe that Wijnaldum would be a shrewd signing for Spurs, as he offers pace and quality in midfield, whilst also serving as a great alternative to Alli in the central attacking midfield spot.

However, others don't think Wijnaldum is any better than what Spurs already have, and suggest they would rather sign Real Madrid's Mateo Kovacic - and his anonymous displays for Newcastle were brought up as a reason why Spurs should avoid the Dutch international...
