It would be fair to say that not all Burnley fans were excited after manager Sean Dyche decided to sign Joey Barton on a free transfer at the start of last season but the controversial midfielder most certainly managed to turn the doubters into admirers by the end of the campaign.
The 33-year-old made a total of 38 appearances in Burnley’s Championship winning season and was voted the Clarets’ Player of the Year for his wonderful efforts.
Given his fine performances, the Turf Moor faithful were hopeful that Barton would be signing an extension to his one year deal at the club but somewhat surprisingly, the former Newcastle United star instead decided to leave the club for Scottish giants Rangers.
Despite the exit, Barton remains a much revered figure at Burnley and fans have flooded the ex-England international with letters of appreciation over the last month or so.
Barton has understandably been touched by the support from the Clarets’ fans and the veteran has now gone on to take to social media website Twitter to thank the supporters.
Barton now prepares for a new adventure in Scottish football with Rangers and if the veteran can deliver similar performances as he did with Burnley, he will surely receive a lot of love from the passionate Gers supporters as well.
Will Barton be a hit at Rangers?
