But he faces stiff competition from Gunner Ozil, as the pair have taken their rivalry to be the best midfielder in the Premier League across the Channel and onto the international stage this summer.
Ozil was superb in Germany's penalty shootout win over Italy in quarter-finals scoring the goal and dictating the game.
He also joined Payet on the PFA Player of the Year shortlist last season.
The debate between West Ham and Gunners fans over their star men intensified after Arsenal supporters started using the Payet song changing the words for Ozil.

But new stats from football analysis website Oulala.com finally prove who is the more effective player.
And the figures don't lie as Payet dominates his rival in six key areas.
According to Oulala.com's stats, Payet has won more dribbles (15 to 11) and has a better take-on success rate (79% to 73%).
He has also created more key chances than his German counterpart (21 to 17).
The West Ham man has also been more adventurous with his shot taking with a total of 17 to Özil's 12.
One thing is for sure, Thursday will certainly go some way to deciding who is crowned the player of the tournament.
