Former Nottingham Forest manager Stuart Pearce suggested on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Monday morning (broadcast from 6am, July 4) that Will Hughes would be a good signing for Arsenal.

The Derby County midfielder has been linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

According to The Sun, United are interested in signing Hughes from Derby this summer.

It has been reported by the British tabloid that Derby will demand £7 million as transfer fee for Hughes, whose current contract with the Rams runs out in June 2018, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

Former Forest manager Pearce rates Hughes highly, and believes that he would be a good signing for Arsenal as a replacement for Wales international midfielder Aaron Ramsey.

“I will tell you where I think a good match for him would be: Arsenal,” said Pearce on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Monday morning (broadcast from 6am, July 4) when asked for his thoughts on speculation linking Hughes with a move to United this summer.

“You know the way Arsenal play. If I was one of the bigger clubs, I would come for Ramsey here and see whether a big-money bid to Arsenal would get him out, and then as a replacement, Will Hughes.”

Hughes is one of the best and most promising young players in the Championship. The 21-year-old midfielder suffered a long-term injury last season, but he is now fully fit.

The England Under-21 international could feature in just eight Championship matches last season, creating eight chances in the process.

During the 2014-15 campaign, Hughes scored two goals and created 46 chances in 42 Championship games.

The youngster had a pass accuracy of 86% and a shot accuracy of 43%, and won 11 headers, 29 dribbles and 74 tackles.
