Robinson broke into the Aston Villa first-team back in 2013 as a prodigious teenager and at the time, the club hierarchy had high hopes that the forward would be able to establish himself in the senior side as a regular.
However, Robinson was unable to capitalize on the opportunity and was drafted out on loan spells to various clubs over the past few seasons.
Robinson spent last season on loan at Championship club Preston North End and while the 21-year-old featured for only 666 minutes of action across 20 matches, he did have a role to play in the Lilywhites’ fine campaign.
As a result, Preston have wasted no time whatsoever in signing Robinson on a permanent basis upon his release by Villa and the youngster expressed his happiness at making the move.
Speaking to the club's official website, he said, "It was obviously a big decision for me leaving Aston Villa, I've been there since I was eight-years-old. But, if there was ever a club for me to settle down with and sign permanently with, it would be Preston North End."
Upon the confirmation of Robinson’s departure, Villa star Jack Grealish has taken to social media website to wish his former teammate luck at Deepdale.
The youngster posted:
Preston play hosts to Aston Villa in the Championship at Deepdale on October 1 and it will be interesting to see Grealish and Robinson locking horns against each other.
