But does Mario Balotelli want Sampdoria?

Mario Balotelli returned to training at Liverpool this week, but whether he will be playing for the club next season is another matter entirely.

The striker scored only one league goal in his spell at Anfield, before being loaned out to AC Milan last season - where he also netted just one Serie A goal.

This has left Milan unlikely to pursue his signature, not at least until they have exhausted other options.

Balotelli is however attracting interest from fellow Serie A side Sampdoria.

Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero admits he has been in touch with the striker, although is none the wiser whether his overtures will be accepted.

Quoted by Tuttomercatoweb, Ferrero said: "I told him to come to us, the problem is that Balotelli is the main enemy of himself. He's a bit like Cassano."

He is certainly not getting too hung up on Balotelli, admitting he was considering alternative signings as well.

It is not the first time Sampdoria have been linked to the striker, with the Liverpool Echo reporting last summer they were keen.

Balotelli chose to switch to AC Milan instead, no longer an option for the time being, and this could potentially push him in Sampdoria's direction this time around, if Reds boss Jurgen Klopp makes it clear he has no future at the club.
