According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton and Southampton have held preliminary talks over a deal to send striker Graziano Pelle to Goodison Park.

The Toffees swooped to land their first signing under new manager Ronald Koeman last week, as goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg joined the club on a three-year deal from Fulham.

Stekelenburg had worked with Koeman at both Ajax and Southampton, meaning it's now a third spell together - and a similar deal could be in the offing.

The Liverpool Echo report that Koeman wants Southampton striker Graziano Pelle at Goodison Park, and preliminary talks have been held over a deal to take the Italian to Merseyside this summer.

Pelle, 30, worked with Koeman at Feyenoord, smashing a superb 55 goals in 66 games for the Dutch giants, before Koeman took the Italian striker to Southampton with him in 2014.

After 30 goals in the last two seasons, including 14 goals last term, Pelle has adjusted well to life in English football, and is now wanted for a third spell under Koeman, this time at Everton.

The Telegraph recently claimed that Southampton want between £10m and £20m for Pelle this summer, meaning it could take a big-money deal for Everton to land the striker.

The Liverpool Echo believe that Koeman will have to convince the Everton hierarchy to splash out £16m on Pelle - a large fee for a player in his 30's - but with a knowledge of Koeman's tactics over the last few years, he could be a smart signing for the Toffees.

However, it's claimed that clubs in Europe and China both want Pelle, meaning Everton have competition for his signature - but with talks underway, Pelle could end up at Goodison Park having impressed for Italy at Euro 2016 this summer.
