Manchester United have emerged as favourites to land Porto midfielder Ruben Neves.

Bookies Bet Stars claim the Red Devils are more likely than Liverpool to sign the prospect, who has already captained his club.

United are priced at 4/5 to sign Neves, who has a £34 million release clause in his contract.

Liverpool are second favourites at 7/4, with it 3/1 that he ends the transfer window as a Porto player.

Ian Marmion, trading director at Bet Stars told HITC Sport: “The battle for the signature of Ruben Neves has been a two-horse race for some time, with Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool leading the market for the Portuguese midfielder.

“However, in the last 24 hours the market’s been all one-way traffic, with United now overwhelming odds-on favourites to secure Neves’ signature at 4/5, ahead of Liverpool at 7/4.”

Neves would be an outstanding signing for either side, especially Liverpool, where he could become Steven Gerrard's replacement.

He is a player new United boss Jose Mourinho is well aware of, with his Chelsea side facing Neves' Porto home and away in the Champions League last season.

In addition to this, Neves is represented by Jorge Mendes, who also happens to be Mourinho's agent.
