If Everton are able to finalise a deal for Manchester United attacking midfielder Juan Mata, as the Telegraph suggest that they are close to, then they could be about to complete the best deal of the summer.

Ronald Koeman has made Mata one of his top targets at Everton, as he pushes to get a deal done for the Spaniard.

Mata is believed to know that his future at United is in serious doubt, after Jose Mourinho was named as manager.

Mourinho sold Mata when he was in charge at Chelsea, and he is believed to have reservations over utilising the 28-year-old.

Everton are now hopeful of completing a deal for Mata, and at £20 million it is hard to think of a better value transfer deal that will be done this summer.

With such wealth in the Premier League nowadays, players are being sold for over inflated transfers - with teams under no pressure to sell.

Indeed, West Bromwich Albion’s Saido Berahino and Watford’s Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo have all been linked with moves away which would cost significantly more than £20 million.

The trio may all be solid players, but they are not in the same class as Mata, who is proven to be one of the finest creators in the Premier League.

Mata’s arrival at Goodison Park would also announce Everton’s intentions for next season - and if there is any possibility that Koeman’s new side would be able to complete a deal, they surely should go through with it.
