The current Glasgow Rangers number one has been impressed by the new recruit's performances in training.
Gilks joined Rangers last month as manager Mark Warburton made him one of several new faces to arrive at Ibrox this summer.
He has principally been brought in to add experience to a relatively young Gers squad, with the likes of Joey Barton, Niko Kranjcar and Clint Hill all added for the same reason.
He has also been signed to challenge Foderingham for the number one shirt at the club, adding competition to the squad following the departure of Cammy Bell.
Foderingham has clearly been impressed by his new competition too, saying Gilks has looked fantastic in training so far.
“Gilksy has looked fantastic in training,” he told the Daily Mail. “He has a great pedigree and experience that I probably don't have in my career yet so it will be a good battle.”
It now remains to be seen who will be Rangers' number one in the Scottish Premiership next season.
Foderingham was solid for the side last season as they secured their return to the top flight by winning the Scottish Championship.
Gilks provides stern competition for his place though, and it may well be that Warburton opts to go with the more experienced man as they eye a title challenge next season.
