Over the weekend, Tottenham Hotspur were linked with making a surprise move for Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi.

A £37 million fee would be a record transfer for Tottenham, eclipsing figures paid out in 2013 for both Erik Lamela and Roberto Soldado.
Icardi scored 16 goals in 33 Serie A appearances for Inter last season, which was decent if unspectacular, but it is the off field drama he brings which would make it more of a gamble - and pretty unlikely.
The striker has a chequered track record off the pitch, notoriously marrying the wife of teammate Maxi Lopez in a very 'John Terry-eque' falling out.
Little over 12 months ago he was embroiled in a row with Inter fans, with the Guardian reporting he called them 'pieces of s**t', after they threw his shirt back at him.
Then there was a near on-pitch fight with Dani Osvaldo, where the pair had to be separated by Inter teammates after coming close to blows.

Osvaldo was on loan from Southampton at the time, after being turfed out by Mauricio Pochettino, who had brought him in, only to see him punch teammate Jose Fonte.
It is this experience with Osvaldo, a player with a notorious bad boy reputation like Icardi, which will make the Spurs coach reluctant to spend a record fee on Icardi, having already had his fingers burned once.
Tottenham have a tight knit squad, with Pochettino getting rid of negative influences like Emmanuel Adebayor, and discarding anyone who shows dissent like Andros Townsend did to one of his coaches.
The clues are there that this is not a deal Tottenham will do, with Icardi simply being too much of a gamble, when there are more 'model professional' types who are cheaper and with an equally good goals record if not better.
