According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Manchester United have dropped out of the race to sign Valencia star Andre Gomes, as manager Jose Mourinho is confident of re-signing Paul Pogba from Juventus, according to the Daily Mail.

United have already landed two big signings in Ivorian international defender Eric Bailly and talismanic striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but the spending isn't going to stop there.

With a deal for Borussia Dortmund star Henrikh Mkhitaryan on the verge of completion, Spanish newspaper Sport claim that new manager Jose Mourinho has ended his interest in Valencia star Andre Gomes.

The Portugal international, 22, has been impressing at this summer's European Championships, and had been tipped to move to Old Trafford due to Mourinho's relationship with Gomes' agent Jorge Mendes.

Now though, Sport believe that Barcelona are alone in the race to sign Gomes because United are turning their attentions elsewhere - and their focus may be a former Red Devils star.

France's Paul Pogba

The Daily Mail report that manager Mourinho is growing increasingly confident of signing Juventus star Paul Pogba, in a deal which would cost around £80m - shattering the club's and the Premier League's record fee paid for a player.

French midfielder Pogba spent three years at United having signed from Le Havre in 2009, but played just seven games for the United first team before moving on to Juventus in the summer of 2012.

Now one of the world's top players, Pogba - who is playing a key role for France at Euro 2016 - is being lined up for a return to Old Trafford after 34 goals in 178 games for Juventus.

The 23-year-old midfielder has impressed with his incredible athletic ability, and Mourinho is reportedly confident that Pogba is heading back to Old Trafford after just four years away.

Mourinho has allegedly told friends to expect an £80m signing this summer, and with Ed Woodward keen to back the United boss with a huge new signing, Pogba fits the bill perfectly - and once Euro 2016 finishes, we could see a big move from United to re-sign the French star.
