Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Alvaro Arbeloa in the summer transfer window.

Alvaro Arbeloa is interested in signing for Newcastle United in the summer transfer window, according to The Northern Echo.
It has been reported that Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez wants to sign the 33-year-old defender this summer.
Arbeloa is a free agent at the moment, having left Real Madrid at the end of the 2015-16 season.

Benitez worked with the Spanish full-back at Liverpool and Madrid, and it has been reported by The Northern Echo that the two-time Champions League winner wants to move to St. James’ Park this summer.
“Benitez is also in the market to sign Spanish defender Alvaro Arbeloa, who he had at Liverpool,” states the report. “Arbeloa is a free agent and interested in taking on the challenge of taking Newcastle back up.”

Arbeloa is a very experienced defender and has been quite consistent in his career. The 2010 World Cup winner may be past his best, but he could be a good signing for Newcastle if used properly.
The pace of the Championship may be a bit too much for the 33-year-old, but he has experience of playing in England and would be able to contribute.
Newcastle got relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2015-16 season and will be aiming to finish in the top two of the Championship in 2016-17.
