Ritchie has made the switch from Bournemouth to Newcastle United.
Newcastle United's new signing Matt Ritchie has said he is hoping to make a significant contribution in front of goal for the side following his move to the club from Bournemouth.
Ritchie has plenty of experience operating in the Championship as he helped the Cherries get promotion to the top flight in 2015 and played his part in consolidating their place in the top flight ahead of next season.
The 26-year-old is quoted in the Chronicle, saying: “I don’t want to big myself up too much but I’d like to think I score goals.
“I can create goals and hopefully I’ll do that this season. Hopefully we can achieve the aim of getting promoted back to the Premier League where this club belongs.”
Ritchie has made 81 appearances in the Championship and has scored 24 goals in those games, as well as providing 20 assists, which is not a bad return for a winger, and Newcastle will be hoping for a similar return this season as they look to gain promotion back to the top flight at the first time of asking.
Rafa Benitez seems intent on assembling a side with the quality to get promoted from the Championship next season but also with players that have the experience of operating in the Premier League as well.
The bulk of his squad is still from the side that was relegated, but he is adding players with decent pedigree as he looks to really make his mark on Tyneside after being taken to the heart of supporters towards the end of the last campaign.
