According to The Telegraph, Everton are interested in signing Mata from Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
It has been reported that Everton are trying to convince Mata to move to Goodison Park this summer.
According to the report, the Spain international attacking midfielder is aware that he has no future at United, who will have former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho in charge of the first team next season.
Balague has claimed on Twitter that Mata will speak to Mourinho about his future when he returns from holiday later this week.
AT THIS MOMENT, nothing on that. Mata is on holidays. Back on Wednesday. Then he (and Mou) will decide what next https://t.co/hLbDyNJazK— Guillem Balague (@GuillemBalague) 4 July 2016
Mata and Mourinho worked together at Chelsea before the Portuguese boss decided to sell the Spaniard to United in January 2014.
It remains to be seen if the duo are able to work together at Old Trafford, and perhaps the Spain international will have to switch clubs yet again.
If Everton are able to sign Mata this summer, then they would be getting a genuinely world-class attacking midfielder.
