According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Sheffield Wednesday are plotting a move for Andrea Mazzarani.

The report claims that the Championship side have identified the Italian midfielder as a potential recruitment this summer having been impressed with his form in Serie B over the past season.

Wednesday narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League last season, losing 1-0 in the Championship playoff final to Steve Bruce’s Hull City.

With wealthy owner Dejphon Chansiri willing to back the club financially in order to help them push on again, the Owls are rightfully among the favourites to earn promotion this time around.

Boss Carlos Carvalhal has already bolstered his attack with the signing of Steven Fletcher on a free transfer following his release from Sunderland, and now he is seemingly looking at adding to his midfield.

Mazzarani started his career at lower league side Atletico Roma before earning a move to Udinese, though he rarely featured for the Serie A side as he spent most of his time out on loan.

The 26-year-old later joined Modena in 2013, and he has since gone on to establish himself in their first-team squad as he made 14 league appearances last term, scoring three goals.

Predominantly featuring as an attacking midfielder, the former Italy youth international is also capable of playing upfront and out wide. He is quick, versatile and comfortable with the ball at his feet.
