According to the Mirror, Southampton are plotting a £12.5 million for Lille defender Djibril Sidibe.

The Frenchman took charge at the club last month following Ronald Koeman’s move to Everton.

He is likely to be busy in the summer transfer window, having already seen Victor Wanyama and Sadio Mane depart the club for Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool respectively.

However, it is the defence that he is keen on improving first and he wants to make Sidibe his first signing at St Mary’s.

According to the Mirror, the defender is keen on move to the Premier League to bolster his chances of making it into the France squad after Euro 2016.

He narrowly missed out on being named in the squad for the tournament this summer, in which the hosts have reached the semi final stage, where they will take on Germany.

The Saints could view the Frenchman as a replacement for Cedric Soares, who is being eyed by La Liga champions Barcelona.

They will face competition for his signature though, with the report claiming that both Monaco and Paris Saint Germain are also keen on a move.
