According to a report from the Daily Mail, Liverpool have had a bid for Udinese midfielder Piotr Zielinski rejected, although the 22-year-old has his heart set on a move to Anfield.

The Poland international has been linked with a move to Liverpool for much of the summer; however according to the latest story there is a twist few saw coming.

The Mail claims that Italian side Napoli have bid the same amount for Zielinski as Liverpool – £9.2million plus add-ons – but that their Serie A rivals have rejected one offer while accepting the other.

Unfortunately for the Reds, they have allegedly seen their bid thrown out, despite the fact that Zielinski is said to have no desire to move to Napoli this summer.

Could it be an attempt on the part of Udinese to force Liverpool to increase their bid, knowing as they will just how much money there is in the Premier League right now and after the Reds spent big on Sadio Mane?

It is impossible to know for sure, but with Zielinski allegedly having no desire to swap one Italian club for another, this story may take a few more twists and turns in the weeks ahead.
