The midfielder was one of the few impressive performers for the relegated side last season, and has been linked with Marseille.
He looks set for a move away from Aston Villa this summer but it does not appear that Idrissa Gana will be returning to France, as La Provence report that the midfielder wants to stay in the Premier League, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.
Gana was one of the few stand-out performers for Villa in their utterly miserable campaign last term, starring in central midfielder and emerging as statistically one of the best players for interceptions and ball-winning in the Premier League.
Although he took a while to settle into English football, he became imperative for the Villa cause and looked largely a cut above the rest as the Birmingham side suffered a dismal relegation.
Unsurprisingly, speculation has already begun to surface that he will not be following the club down into the Championship, and though he remained at Villa Park as the club kicked off their pre-season plans, it appears that he will not hang around for too long.
However, reports of a potential move to Marseille seem to have been nipped in the bud, as La Provence report, via the Birmingham Mail, that the 26-year-old is not interested in returning to Ligue 1 after arriving in England from Lille a year ago.
Instead, Gana appears to have taken very kindly to life in the Premier League and is allegedly holding out for a move to an English top-flight club.
It had previously been thought that the star would like a return to France, and this latest revelation will surely pique the interest of several top-flight clubs in need of a midfield engine.
The Senegalese man missed just three league games for Villa last season after the club paid £9 million for his services last summer.
