Rangers goalkeeper Wes Foderingham has explained on the club’s official website why 25 is his favourite number.
The 25-year-old is the first-choice goalkeeper at Rangers, and he will have number 1 on the back next season.
The former Swindon Town man has explained why he likes the number 25 so much.
Foderingham has revealed that he likes the number because of his favourite goalkeeper, Pepe Reina, who had it at Liverpool.
Reina, now at Italian club Napoli, was on the books of Liverpool from 2005 until 2014.
The Spain international goalkeeper enjoyed a great time at Anfield and was one of the best players in the team during his spell on Merseyside.
The former Villarreal goalkeeper won the FA Cup in 2006 and the League Cup in 2012 with the Reds.
“They say a number is just a number and it doesn’t matter which one you are wearing but I think the number one jersey is special for a goalkeeper and every goalkeeper wants to be the number one,” Foderingham told Rangers’ official website.
“25 is actually my favourite number so I was debating whether to give that up but I couldn’t turn it down because it’s very special.
“I think I like 25 so much because when Pepe Reina came to Liverpool he wore 25 and he was my favourite goalie.”
Rangers won the Scottish Championship title with ease last season and will feature in the Scottish Premiership during the 2016-17 campaign.
The Gers will be aiming to compete with Old Firm rivals Celtic for the league title next season.
Not many will expect Mark Warburton’s side to actually clinch the league title, but Rangers should at least give Celtic a run for their money.
