Liverpool defender Joel Matip has explained on the club’s official website what the fans can expect from him.
Matip has joined Liverpool in the summer transfer window on a free after leaving German club Schalke at the end of the 2015-16 season.
The centre-back has explained what he will bring to Jurgen Klopp’s side and has also sent a message to the Merseyside club’s fans.
“I am a defender and whether it’s in the air or the ground, I think I am a good defensive player,” Matip told Liverpool’s official website when asked about his playing style. “I am always looking in front and want to play in front. And I am always good for a few goals!”
“That it is a pleasure and an honour to be a part of Liverpool and I will do anything for us to be successful,” added the defender when asked for his message to Liverpool fans.
Matip scored three goals and created 12 chances in 34 Bundesliga appearances for Schalke last season.
The 24-year-old central defender had a pass accuracy of 83% and a shot accuracy of 30%, and won 117 headers, 12 dribbles and 44 tackles.
The Cameroon international is a very good defender, and he should prove to be a good signing for Liverpool.
The Reds have already started pre-season training, as Klopp’s side prepare for the upcoming 2016-17 campaign.
Liverpool will be aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League next season and qualify for the Champions League.
The Reds will be find it tough, as Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur will also be targeting a top-four finish and more.
