Giuseppe Bellusci's agent Michelangelo Minieri has told Tutto Mercato Web that his client is still highly rated by Leeds, despite his move to Empoli.

Bellusci, 26, joined Leeds from Catania back in the summer of 2014, and arrived with a strong reputation having represented Italy at Under-21 level.

The centre back may have made 60 appearances for Leeds in the last two seasons, but his time at Elland Road had been up and down, to say the least.

Bellusci has been capable of producing the brilliant and the perplexing, with some frankly comical defending clouding over some of his more impressive games for the club.

That inconsistency has ultimately led to his exit, as on Friday, Bellusci returned to Italy as he signed a year-long loan deal Serie A side Empoli, replacing now-Napoli defender Lorenzo Tonelli.

With Leeds only signing Bellusci's replacement Kyle Bartley on a season-long loan deal from Swansea City, there is at least the possibility that Bellusci could end up returning to Elland Road in 2017 and resuming his Leeds career - and his agent Michelangelo Minieri didn't rule that out.

Speaking to Tutto Mercato Web, agent Minieri suggested that the deal was 'not easy', as Leeds heavily invested in Bellusci just two years ago, and 'still admire him a lot' - hinting that his long-term future could still be with Garry Monk's side.

Minieri also explained that, whilst a number of clubs wanted to sign Bellusci, the player wanted to prove himself in Serie A again, hence his move to Empoli.

"It was not an easy task, because two years ago Leeds invested in the boy and still admire him a lot," said Minieri. "However, for Bellusci, after two important years in England there is now the opportunity to return to Serie A and prove his worth."

"Several teams have shown interest in Giuseppe, but Empoli became preferable to all. In particular, the Tuscan club manages to put the player in the best conditions to express himself. I repeat, for Bellusci this is the best solution, the perfect setting to establish himself," he added.

Do you think Bellusci will ever play for Leeds again?
