Germany booked their spot in the semi-finals of Euro 2016 by beating Italy on penalties last night.

During normal time, Arsenal star Mesut Ozil opened the scoring with a perfectly-timed run to stroke beyond a helpless Gigi Buffon from close range on 65 minutes.

But Leonardo Bonucci levelled from the penalty spot 13 minutes later to force extra time, but nothing could separate both heavyweights during an additional half-an-hour.

Thomas Muller, Ozil - who also missed a penalty in a last-16 clash with Slovakia - and Bastian Schweinsteiger all fluffed their lines in the shootout, but so did Simone Zaza, Graziano Pelle and Bonucci as the pressure looked a bit too much at times.

In the end, Jonas Hector stepped up and scored the penalty which helped Joachim Low's world champions into the last four.

Arsenal fans on Twitter were happy for Ozil, but implored him to shun the responsibility of penalties if they come his way again.
