Trevor Sinclair hammers Roy Hodgson over West Ham duo

West Ham United

Former West Ham United hero Trevor Sinclair has ridiculed Roy Hodgson for preferring Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool stars.

Hodgson resigned after his side crashed out of Euro 2016 with a 2-1 defeat to Iceland in what goes down as one of the most embarrassing nights in English football history.

England limped into the last 16 after toiling to a second place finish in the group stages behind Wales.

That failure saw them entered into the perceived tougher side of the draw where it looked like they would face Portugal until a late goal from Iceland in their last group game.

But it only provided the platform for the Three Lions to truly embarrass a nation against one of the minnows of international football.

West Ham's Englishmen ignored

Not a single Hammers player made the cut despite recording their best ever Premier League points tally last season and mounting a genuine challenge for Champions League football.

While the East Londoners have a number of players who staked a strong claim for inclusion by the Three Lions boss, none were deemed up to the task by the former Fulham boss.

Hammers fans did not take kindly to Hodgson's blind spot for their club.

Sinclair ridicules Hodgson selection

And neither has Sinclair judging by one of his posts on social networking site Twitter.

Speaking in the wake of Hodgson's departure, Sinclair criticised the former Fulham boss for not bringing Hammers stars Mark Noble and Aaron Cresswell to France.

"Aaron Cresswell is England's best left back bar none and if Mark Noble ain't better than a half fit Henderson..."

Sinclair strikes a chord with Hammers fans

Sinclair makes a salient point and one that will strike a chord with Hammers fans.

As several pundits have pointed out since the England debacle, though, perhaps for the sake of West Ham's English contingent not being selected was the best thing that ever happened to them.

The stigma now attached to the players who represented England across the Channel, particularly in that fateful game, will be difficult to shake.

By not being selected the Hammers duo, and indeed the likes of Andy Carroll and Michail Antonio who were also worthy of consideration, have become even better players without kicking a ball this summer.
