Tottenham Hotspur summer target Vincent Janssen’s week took another twist today, as he failed to appear in AZ Alkmaar’s first pre-season friendly earlier today.

As reported earlier today by Goal.com the Dutch international was not in attendance for the game as his future at the club looks to be up in the air.

The report did not explicitly state whether his absence was directly due to a potential transfer.

Spurs have been heavily linked with the player all summer.

It was reported by The Telegraph this week that Spurs’ bid to buy the player this summer was being held up by AZ’s asking price. They want £16.5 million for the player whilst Spurs had bid £15 million, to be paid in instalments.

It comes as Janssen told De Telegraaf this week that he would be personally offended if AZ do not accept Spurs’ next offer for his services, if another offer is forthcoming – stating:

"I want to go to Tottenham. The management knows that this is suitable for me. But clearly Vincent Janssen is not important. I trust AZ and Spurs will talk.

"If AZ do not, despite the offered amount and Spurs drop out, then that is a blow to me.

"I'm not one to make quick war, but how I will react, I do not know. I therefore assume that AZ realizes quickly that a transfer for everyone is the best."

Janssen is a wanted commodity after a blistering season with the Eredivisie club last term and good form with the Dutch national team.

He scored 29 goals in 41 appearances for club and country last season and would be a great addition to Tottenham’s team, as they look to take some of the pressure off the shoulders of frontman Harry Kane.
